The Challenge

NikeTeam Football has long been a trusted provider of high-performance gear to grassroots teams around the world. But while the product quality was never in question, the brand's messaging remained largely functional, focused on equipment, features, and delivery.

What was missing was the emotional core of grassroots football: the passion, the community, and the relentless drive that fuels amateur players week in, week out. Nike’s global identity is built on inspiration and pushing boundaries. But NikeTeam’s local expression didn’t yet reflect the heart that define the grassroots game.

Target Audience

This project was rooted in a deep understanding of two key groups:

  • Grassroots players and teams – From small-town clubs to Sunday league teams, these athletes play without the spotlight but with the same intensity as the pros. They care deeply about their team identity, their rituals, and their journey. They don’t just need gear; they need representation.

  • Resellers and team dealers – Often focused purely on transactions, they lacked the tools and storytelling assets to elevate Nike’s role in the team experience. There was a clear opportunity to empower them with a stronger brand story.

Strategy

To shift perception, we needed to close the gap between NikeTeam’s product promise and the lived experience of grassroots players. Our goal: reposition the brand from gear provider to genuine partner, one that reflects the grit, pride, and passion found on every muddy pitch.

We anchored the strategy in Nike’s global values: innovation, equality and sustainability - each reinterpreted through a grassroots lens. But more than that, we chose to speak with players, not at them, grounding the brand in their reality, and building emotional relevance from the ground up.

The creative concept Inspired by You was born from a simple truth: the future of football isn’t shaped in packed stadiums, it’s built on local pitches, by players who show up week after week for the love of the game.

Inspired by You flips the traditional narrative. Instead of portraying what players should aspire to, it reflects the inspiration they already bring. These are the unsung heroes, fueling the game’s heartbeat through sheer dedication.

We brought this to life in three core ways:

  • A powerful brand narrative
    We shifted focus from gear to the journey, telling stories of perseverance and community. We captured the moments that truly matter: pre-game rituals, muddy tackles, late-night wins, and the bonds that form in between. NikeTeam Football became a symbol of every player’s personal quest for greatness.
  • Storytelling-led messaging
    We transformed NikeTeam’s content across all platforms, from catalogs to digital campaigns, by centering it around the players, the teams and their stories. Each piece of communication was crafted to celebrate real experiences.
  • Raw and authentic visuals
    Forget polished studio shots. We captured football in its realest form: gritty, emotional and powerful. Our imagery told unfiltered stories, a mud-streaked jersey after a tough match, the quiet reflection after a loss, the joy of a last-minute goal. These visuals built a deep connection with grassroots players, showing that Nike wasn’t just part of their kit, it was part of their story.

Implementation

The transformation went far beyond visuals. It involved a complete rethink of NikeTeam Football’s identity and presence within grassroots communities:
